無線イヤホンで集団カンニング、30人摘発
耳の穴に隠れ、外からは見えない無線イヤホンや携帯電話の文字メッセージを使い、英語能力試験のTOEICの答案を受験生に知らせる集団カンニング行為を行ったとして、ソウル地方警察庁広域捜査隊は23日までに、受験生から金銭を受け取っていたグループと、不正に900点台のスコアを上げた受験生を一斉摘発し、2人を逮捕、28人を書類送検した。
調べによると、主犯格の男（42）は、米国滞在経験で英語に精通したインターネット英語講師の男（31）と共謀し、ポータルサイト上に「TOEIC高スコア保証」などとうたうサイトを開設し、受験生を募集した上で、今年2月から5月にかけ行われた4回のTOEIC試験で28人から200万−300万ウォン（約14万9000−22万3000円）の謝礼を受け取り、答案を教えた疑い。
英語講師の男は直接TOEIC試験を受験しながら、手のひらより小さい「チャイムベル」と呼ばれる無線機器を使って、受験生に正答を発信し、主犯の男が試験会場周辺の車両で無線電波を受信。さらにそれを受験生に再送信していた。犯行グループは米粒より小さいイヤホンを配り、受験生は主犯の男が読み上げる回答を記入していた。
警察によると、不正行為を行った受験生のスコアは大半が500点台から900点台に上昇したが、類似した答案が多かったことを不審に思った韓国TOEIC委員会は成績承認を保留した。

The suspects, named Kim and Park, are accused of making around 50 million won (38,750 dollars) from 28 university students and job-seekers in exchange for answers to the Test of English for International Communication (TOEIC), newspapers reported Wednesday.
"The fraudsters took advantage of the desperation of low-scoring test-takers as TOEIC scores have a big effect on getting jobs and promotions," a police officer told the Korea Times.
The test-takers are also being investigated, the Joong Ang Daily added.
Park, a former English teacher, is accused of sitting the exam and using a small wireless device to send answers to Kim, who was in a car outside with a wireless vibrating device.
The device would vibrate once if the answer was "A," twice for "B" and so on, the Joong Ang Daily said.
Kim is accused of then passing on the answers to examinees inside the room, who wore an earphone the size of a grain of rice and an antenna that looked like a necklace.
Test-takers at other locations are also said to have received answers via text message. Kim is accused of instructing them the day before on ways to conceal their cell phones to avoid handing them in before the examination.
Kim allegedly offered services at different prices -- with examinees receiving the answers either by cell phone text message or an earphone.
